About the Author
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Attended Overbrook High School, whose two other famous graduates are Wilt Chamberlain and the actor Will Smith. Graduated from Temple University, where Bill Cosby was a classmate. Received my legal education at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, WI.
Worked as a trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board’s office in Milwaukee, WI, for two years, where I conducted numerous union elections, investigated unfair labor practice charges and prosecuted many cases in administrative trials. Was then selected to become Legal Assistant to NLRB Board Member John Fanning, where I participated in writing many of the key decisions of the NLRB during early 1970’s.
I then joined a small labor law firm in DC, where my work included representing staff unions for virtually all of the major unions headquartered in DC, as well as representing the Washington Post reporters’ guild during the Watergate era. Handled numerous labor arbitration cases and federal administrative agency matters.
Relocated to Chicago, where I have represented and advised employers in all aspects of labor and employment law for more than thirty years. During my career as a management employment lawyer, I have handled employment law matters in thirty-five states and the District of Columbia. My work has included more then 100 union organizing campaigns and a multitude of court and administrative litigation cases, which were won by either summary judgment, trial or settled for relatively nominal amounts. As a trusted advisor, a significant part of my practice is proactively advising employers on compliance with the myriad of labor and employment laws and best practices in human resources.
I am a senior partner in the labor and employment law practice group of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a prominent nationwide law firm. I have been selected by my peers to be a member of the Leading Lawyers Network, as well as the Super Lawyers network. Frequently, I speak to trade, business and professional organizations on the latest developments in federal and state labor and employment laws. I have a certicate from Northwestern University for completing their Mediation Skills Training Course and am looking forward to acting as a Mediator in labor & employment law matters.
My civic service includes being a member of the board of trustees and former chairman of the board of two major Chicago hospitals; serving on the international board of a faith-based university campus organization; and being a board member of several other local social welfare organizations.
Married with three adult daughters and two grandchildren. I am a serious amateur photographer and would be glad to share my portfolio with you.
